Blaze Engulfs Hong Kong Housing Complex

HONG KONG: 767 fire-fighters by means of 128 water-cannons are attempting to contain the massive blaze that has engulfed 32-storey residential blocks (sheathed in bamboo scaffolding), claiming 85 lives here on Wednesday (26th Nov, 2025).

Comprising 8 blocks, the housing complex, known as Wang Fuk Court, harboured two thousand apartments. Fire brigade personnel said it was not possible to figure out how many people were inside the batiment as they could not reach the upper floors. However, according to an estimate 300 individuals are still unaccounted for.

Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has announced: “In view of the immense public interest involved, the ICAC today set up a task force to launch a full investigation into possible corruption in the grand renovation project of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.”

Three executives of a construction company have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. According to sources the 8 towers were being renovated by the same entity that had made the whole complex incendie-prone by packing it with extensive bamboo scaffolding and safety netting. It is pertinent to mention here that Hong Kong’s Labour Department has asked the contractor to take fire safety measures.

Derek Armstrong Chan, Deputy Director Fire Services told the journalists due to extreme temperatures inside the structures, firefighters were facing difficulty: “Debris and scaffolding of the affected building are falling down, posing additional danger to our frontline personnel…Besides, the temperature inside the building is very high, it’s quite difficult for us to enter the building and go upstairs to conduct firefighting and rescue operations…It has become dark so our rescue and firefighting operation is becoming more difficult.”

The massive flame reminds one of the Hollywood incendie that consumes lives of 16 citoyens and destroyed 12000 houses. Governor Gavin Newsom informed that over 1400 firefighters were attempting to contain the blaze that has reached Hollywood and could annihilate the iconic sign. According to the LA Fire Department, the Palisades Fire, that commenced at 10:30am Tuesday (7th Jan), destroyed 40 square kms in Pacific Palisades, which harbors abodes of many known figures.

Stars, including Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore and James Woods, were forced to evacuate their homes at Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles as Phoenix raged mercilessly. Billy Crystal and wife Janice, whose house has been consumed totally by fire, stated: “Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing.

We ache for our friends and neighbors who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy. Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away. We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this.”

Paris Hilton stated: “Heartbroken beyond words. Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience. This home was where we built so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix took his first steps and were we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.

While the loss is overwhelming, I’m holding onto gratitude that my family and my pets are safe. My heart and prayers are going out to every family affected by these fires. To all the people who have lost their homes, their memories and their beloved pets. My heart aches for those still in harm’s way or mourning greater losses. The place they called home is truly heartbreaking.

My 11:11 Media Impact Team is already reaching out to nonprofit organizations today to figure out how we can best support the communities impacted by these fires. We’re committed to offering help as soon as possible and making a meaningful difference for those who need it most. To the brave firefighters and first responders risking their lives to protect us – you are true heroes.

I am so grateful for your courage, dedication, and the incredible sacrifices you’re making to saved lives and fight this unimaginable battle. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please, everyone, stay safe and follow evacuation orders. Let’s protect one another and hold onto hope that these fires will soon be contained. Sending so many love and strength to all of you . We’re in this together, LA. Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight. You never know when everything could change.”
