WASHINGTON DC: An Afghan national, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who worked with CIA in Kandahar and entered the US in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, opened fire at two National Guards soldiers near White House critically injuring them here Wednesday (26th Nov, 2025).

and Andrew Wolfe, 24 remain in critical condition.

Taking to the Social Media President Donald Trump stated: “The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!” It may be recalled that he too was shot at before polls while recently Charlie Kirk was shot dead.
President Donald Trump, terming the attack as an act of terror, said he would “take steps to remove foreigners from any country who does not belong here”. Meanwhile, US has suspended processing of all immigration cases filed by Afghans. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who was shot and nabbed by authorities, was granted asylum in April, 2025. It is pertinent to mention here that tens of thousands of Afghans (working for US forces in Kabul) fled to USA under special immigration protections when Americans withdrew from under Joe Biden.
