As the first phase of ceasefire expired on 1st March, 2025, Israel blocked entry of humanitarian aid in Gaza demanding Hamas to agree to US Plan for the extension of the truce. According to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hamas was not accepting the temporary extension under a proposal by US president’s Envoy Steve Witkoff.
“With the end of Phase 1 of the hostage deal, and in light of Hamas’s refusal to accept the Witkoff outline for continuing talks – to which Israel agreed – Prime Minister Netanyahu has decided that, as of this morning, all entry of goods and supplies into the Gaza Strip will cease…Israel will not allow a ceasefire without the release of our hostages. If Hamas continues its refusal, there will be further consequences,” statement released from the office of the Israeli PM held.

Hamas wanted second phase of the truce to go ahead, i.e: withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the swap of hostages and prisoners. Terming the blockage a cheap blackmail the group asked the mediators to intervene. Hamas spokesman maintained: “Netanyahu’s decision to stop aid going into Gaza once again shows the ugly face of the Israeli occupation… The international community must apply pressure on the Israeli government to stop starving our people.”
Thousands of Palestinians resorted to move towards Gaza City by shank’s mare once Israel proclaimed that the ceasefire was in effect and the troops withdrew from many areas in accordance the deal, on 10th Oct, 2025.
In the next three days (72 hours) Hamas released hostages held. Israel unshackled 2000 Palestinians (prisoners/detainees). President Donald Trump, who failed to get 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, attempted to make sure that his claim of stopping 8 wars remains intact.
