KARACHI: Six people lost their lives Thu/Friday (2/3 April, 2026) when Port City was lashed by torrential rains caused by strong westerly system.

Five victims got electrocuted while the 6th person lost his live when a wall collapsed on him. Moreover, scores of citoyens got injured when they, their motorcycles and vehicles were sucked in by gaping manholes as well as holes dug to construct Redline buses, years ago. Urban flooding is a routine phenomenon in the poor locales of the city.

Corrupt City administration, (that has been usurping, Sindh’s budget for the last two decades, instead of utilizing it to ameliorate Karachi’s dilapidated infrastructure), had declared emergency. According to Météo department there is no possibility of rain during the day (3rd April) in the Metropolis.

Rains killed twenty karachiites: It may be recalled that strong winds and heavy rains lashed the Port City on 18th March, 2026 evening, claiming twenty lives and injuring a dozen others in Baldia, and other parts of the Metropolis.

Most of the deaths were caused due to collapsing of roofs and other structures when winds of up to 90 kph lashed the city. Many trees were uprooted. Accumulated rain water also caused traffic jams at major arteries.

While different areas of Karachi experienced 15 to 35 mm of rain, Korangi recorded the highest rainfall at 55.6 mm. As usual several parts of of the city plunged into darkness. In order to assuage citoyens’ anger KE took to the X: “Our field teams remain on-ground, working round the clock to restore power in affected areas. Despite water-logging challenges, safety remains our top priority. We value your patience and understanding as we continue these efforts.”

Last year on Tuesday 2nd September, as soon as the weather system entered Pakistan, rains lashed the Port City, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin and Tharparkar till Tuesday (2nd Sept) causing urban flooding in these coastal cities.

Hyderabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad and Kashmore located in the interior of Sindh also experienced heavy rains. Citoyens of Islamabad faced heavy rains with thunderstorm from Friday till Tuesday. On 30th and 31st August rains caused urban flooding in Punjab cities of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jehlum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin.

Flash floods, due to heavy rains, inundated many cities in Southern Punjab. For instance, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan. From 29th, 30th and 31st August, last year, citizens of KP’s cities Malakand and Hazara braced for the landsliding triggered by heavy rains.
