MOSCOW: “I received a message from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei”, disclosed President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, who met Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi here on Monday (27th April, 2026).
Putin maintained, during the rendezvous with Irani delegation: “Russia will do what it can to support the interests of Iran and other regional countries and help bring peace to West Asia as soon as possible. I hope Iranian people overcome this difficult period and that peace is restored.”
Outlining his support for Tehran, during the meeting, Putin stated: “We see how courageously and heroically the Iranian people are fighting for their independence, for their sovereignty”.
It is believed that Iran has provided Russia Shahed drones and short-range ballistic missiles to use against Ukraine. Whereas, Russia had shared intelligence apropos the locations and movements of American troops, ships and aircraft.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, landed in Moscow after his brief stay in Oman. He had a sojourn in Islamabad too, where he gave Pakistani officials a list of “red lines” to be conveyed to the US, including “nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz.” It is pertinent to mention here that Irani FM had also discussed the ongoing diplomatic processes with the Saudi Foreign Minister during telephonic conversation.
Araghchi, earlier took to the X to brief about his earlier stay in Islamabad on 25th April: “Very fruitful visit to Pakistan, whose good offices and brotherly efforts to bring back peace to our region we very much value. Shared Iran’s position concerning workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran. Have yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy.”
Porte parole of the Irani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baqaei, had proclaimed that no meeting was planned to take place with US delegates during the FM’s 25th April Pakistan visit. Commenting on the arrival of the delegation from Tehran in Islamabad, Spox Esmaeil Baqaei held: “We arrive in Islamabad, Pakistan, for an official visit.
“FM Araghchi will be meeting with Pakistani high-level officials in concert with their ongoing mediation & good offices for ending American imposed war of aggression and the restitution of peace in our region.”
On the other hand US team, consisting of US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner, were also supposed to land in Islamabad (before cancellation of the trip by the Trump). Many believed their purpose of visit was to hold the 2nd round of talks with Tehran attempting to figure out a way to end the ongoing War.
