CALIFORNIA: Two boys (aged 17 and 18) attacked the Islamic Center (after namaz) situated in the Clairmont area of San Diago County (harboring the locale’s largest mosque) and gunned three men down, here on Monday (18th May, 2026).
The gunmen committed suicide inside their car, blocks away from the mosque. Names of those killed have not been released yet. However, one of the suspects has been identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark. FBI, that is investigating the hate crime, has set up a tip line and appealed general public to contact them if they have any piece of information.
The Chief of San Diego Police Scott Wahl, while talking to journalists at a Presser held here, informed that among the victims was a security guard who played a pivotal role and undoubtedly saved lives: “This is every community’s worst nightmare,” he said.
Mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, while talking the Media on Monday afternoon, stated: “The threat has been addressed, children are safe and that is a good thing…Obviously, we’ve had the loss of life here at the Islamic Center of San Diego, and to our local Muslim community, my prayers are with you.” Mayor Todd Gloria maintained: “Hate has no home in San Diego. Islamophobia has no home in San Diego. An attack on any San Diegan is an attack on all San Diegans, and we will not stand for it in America’s finest city.”
One may recall that on 5th Oct last year a Brighton (UK) mosque had been torched by two arsonists with a couple of namazis still inside, days after a fatal attack on a Synagogue. During the probe it transpired that two arsonists sprinkled fuel at the door of the mosque (situated on Phyllis Avenue, ) and torched the batiment. A Toyota Prius at the entrance too caught fire and turned into a fireball when its fuel tank exploded. Footage also features a namazi escaping from the burning inferno.
