MUMBAI: Famous singer Adnan Sami has finally opened up about why he chose to live in India and give up Pakistani citizenship.
“I am a very emotional person. If someone lovingly asks me for my life, I’ll give it up. Indians have given me immense and unconditional love and I am very grateful. That was why I decided to apply for an Indian citizenship,” he said, while at a Wellness Congress event.
The 43-year-old also said that the country remained his Karma Bhoomi (workplace) for a long time.
“India is my Karma Bhoomi. I lived in various countries but my heart was always in India due to the love showered on me by the people.”
“I had my own ups and downs in getting the Indian citizenship, but ultimately I got it and I am happy about it. I like India. My love is here. I am a proud Indian,” he added.
Sami, who was living in India on a business and professional visa for many years, was granted Indian citizenship on New Year’s eve, January 1, 2016.
His visa had been previously extended from time to time, but his Pakistani passport was about to expire on May 26. When the Pakistani government refused to renew his passport, he was forced to apply for Indian citizenship.
