MUMBAI: The much-awaited ‘controversial’ movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been screened worldwide and has created magic at the box office.
The month-long controversy that this Karan Johar’s work faced, did not affect the film’s revenue much and ADHM had fared exceptionally well in the box office.
According to Bollywood analyst Taran Adarsh, the day one collections of the movie was recorded 13.30 cr.
“#ADHM Fri 13.30 cr. India biz… EXCELLENT at plexes… Note: Dhanteras. Pre-Diwali,” he said in a tweet.
“Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer movie saw good occupancy during morning shows. The movie opened with around 35-50% occupancy across the country. In some parts, the film had around 50% occupancy,” Adarsh added.
He also predicted that ADHM is expected to strike gold at the box office during this weekend as festive season prevails.
On the other side, Ajay Devgan-starrer Shivaay had an opening collection of Rs 10.24 cr. The film had a box office clash with ADHM which had better numbers.
Both the films are releasing on approximately the same number of screens — between 2800 to 3000. While ADHM has a higher share of multiplexes, Shivaay is releasing in more single-screen theaters. ADHM has been made at an approximate budget of Rs 70 crore with about Rs 10-15 crore spent on promotions.
“It has already earned about Rs 50 crore after the pre-release sale of rights,” claimed the director Karan Johar.
KJO’s movie faced unwanted controversy from Indian extremist group MNS, which demanded to remove the scenes of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan from the film. However, the matter was solved after Karan Johar and Mahesh Bhatt met with Shiv Sena’s Raj Thackeray and requested him to let the movie screened.
Fawad Khan may not return to India again in the near future but his minor presence in the film gave ADHM humongous publicity.
