Afghan peace process: US top envoys to arrive in Islamabad today

ISLAMABAD: US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, South and Central Asia, Alice G. Wells will arrive in Islamabad today.

They will hold meetings with Pakistani authorities as part of regular consultations on bilateral relationship and Afghan peace process, according to Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal.

“US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation Amb Khalilzad and Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, South and Central Asia, Amb Wells arrive in Islamabad, Monday to hold meetings – part of regular consultations, on bilateral relationship & Afghan peace process,” he had tweeted yesterday.

The US State Department had earlier said Khalilzad will tour Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia and the United Kingdom between April 21 and May 11 as part of the ‘overall effort to facilitate a political settlement that ends the conflict in Afghanistan’.
