MUMBAI: As Panama Papers or Panama Leaks has affected many popular celebrities, politicians and other famous figures alleging them to having offshore assets abroad, the ‘affectees’ nominated in the list are trying to defend themselves and prove to be ‘innocent’.
Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan is also named in the Panama Papers as to having offshore accounts.
The actor came in the spotlight to defend himself. He rubbished all allegations against him and said his name has been ‘misused’.
“I do not know any of the companies referred to Sea Bulk Shipping Company Ltd, Lady Shipping Ltd, Treasure Shipping Ltd, and Tramp Shipping Ltd. I have never been a director of any of the above stated companies. It is possible that my name has been misused,” said the actor.
Referring to his businesses abroad, Bachchan said: “I have paid all my taxes including on monies spent by me overseas. I do not have any kind of illegal investment abroad. Even a single report does not suggest any illegality on my part.”
The Panama Papers leak involves a vast trove of documents detailing the offshore holdings of a dozen current and former world leaders, as well as businessmen, criminals, celebrities and sports stars.
