Ammara Khan Khattak becomes first female Deputy Commissioner of Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD: Hazara’s ex- additional commissioner, Ammara Aamir Khattak made history when she became the first female Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Abbottabad.

Her appointment to the office comes as a surprise to many since she assumes the role of Deputy Commissioner in a troublesome district. However, civil society members were hopeful of her rising to the challenge.

“Women workers will certainly feel more at ease approaching a woman for their day-to-day problems,” said Saeeda Yasmin, a schoolteacher.

“Let us hope the problems relating to women are now dealt in a more effective and efficient manner,” she said.

Another female activist from the area named Faiza Bibi was also full of praise for the government for appointing Ammara.

“The provincial government should be appreciated for its openness and faith in women,” she said.

Ammara secured her LLB from Punjab University and then qualified for the CCP. She later joined the 34th Common Training Programme of District Management Group officers. She was made K-P deputy secretary regulations after she had served as deputy district officer in Lahore and Hyderabad. Quite a few months ago, Ammara had been sent to Hazara as additional commissioner.
