KARACHI: Sardar Abdul Rahim, Gen Sec PML-F & Spokesman GDA, had implored President Dr. Arif Alvi to bestow posthumous awards upon Poet Saghar Siddiqui [who had penned the world’s most popular *dhammal (Lal Meri Pat Rakhiyo Bhala Jhoole Lalan)] and its composer (for film) Master Ashiq Hussain.
Sardar Abdul Rahim has further stated in his correspondence to the President that their chef-d’œuvre had been crooned by legendary Madame Noor Jehan and shot singers like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Mika Singh and others to the zenith of eminence.
In his letter Sardar Abdul Rahim, while lamenting that the repute of civil awards was diminishing, expressed hope that the President would augment it by bestowing them upon the men behind the melody Damadum Must Qalandar.*NPTV reckons that only the annals of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s Sufi Shrine in Sehwan could decipher the enigma of premier composition’s origins.
