Former president Asif Zardari files bail plea on medical grounds

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has filed a bail petition through his counsel on medical grounds in the High Court (IHC) here today.

The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-chairman is currently undergoing medical treatment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital due to his deteriorating health.

In his bail plea filed in the Islamabad High Court, Zardari has made the federal government and authorities respondent. His counsel said that former president of the state was not well, and he was battling many diseases simultaneously.

“The ailing former president needs 24-hour medical care,” the bail plea of Zardari read.

His counsel requested the court to grant the former president bail on medical grounds.

Yesterday, the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while talking to the media outside PIMS hospital, said that the party will approach the Islamabad High Court to file a bail plea for co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on medical grounds.

“He [Zardari] was not agreed to file the bail petition, however, after Aseefa Bhutto’s request [Zardari’s daughter], he changed his mind and decided to file the petition.

Bilawal said that the PPP had no issues in getting Zardari treated in Pakistan. However, he said,  we don’t have confidence in the doctors here and we would like some of the best physicians to treat the party co-chairman.

“We believe that the doctors here are some of the best doctors, but still we are not sure about them. And we want the best treatment for him [Asif Ali Zardari],” Bilawal Bhutto said.
