Attack at the US CG Jeddah claims 2 lives

JEDDAH: An assailant and a Nepalese security guard posted at the US diplomatic post here lost their lives during an exchange of fire Wednesday (28th June, 2023) evening outside the Consulate.

According to Saudi Press Agency: “At 6:45 pm (1545 GMT), a man stopped in a car in front of the consulate building and got out with a weapon in his hand

“Security forces reacted… resulting in an exchange of fire that killed the assailant.”

While the attacker was pronounced dead at the scene, security guard, who received a number of bullet wounds, succumbed to injuries later.

Whereas, the Saudi spooks are presently figuring out the motive behind the attack, State Department told: “The US Embassy and Consulate remain in contact with Saudi authorities as they investigate the incident…

“The Consulate was appropriately locked down, and no Americans were harmed in the attack.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the incident took place on the day when Muslims were celebrating Eid-ul-Azha that follows the Hajj (Pilgrimage of Mecca) performed by millions from all over the world.
