Aziz Memon: 3 alleged murderers nabbed

NAWABSHAH: Three people who allegedly strangled (Kawish/KTN journalist) Aziz Memon to death have been nabbed today.

Karachi Police Chief AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon while speaking at a Presser held today has confirmed that an investigation had revealed that journalist Aziz Memon was murdered due to enmity.

It may be noted that  on 16th of February this year, Aziz Memon’s body was found dumped in a Naushehro Feroze irrigation waterway with a wire tightly wrapped around his neck. The first autopsy report held that he died due to suffocation.

However, as a result of protests by Media bodies including PFUJ and IFJ, a second autopsy was conducted on the exhumed body of slain journalist. Thorough examination of the body revealed that Aziz Memon was murdered.

AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon has informed Media that three suspects – including the mastermind Mushtaq Sahtu had been arrested in the case. Detained accused Nazir Sahtu had even  confessed in front of a court in Naushahro Feroz to his crime.

It is pertinent to mention here that DNA tests of 94 people were conducted and that of three suspects, including Nazir Sahito, had matched the samples recovered from the finger nails of the deceased. AIG Police told that out of eight suspects three had been nabbed while raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining five.

Lauding the support of institutions for assisting the police, he said  further probe was in progress . The other two suspects were handed over to police on one-day physical remand.

Aziz Memon, days before his murder,  had accused the PPP, as well as Naushehro Feroze Police, of threatening him for his reporting apropos 2019 Train March of PPP-P Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. In his pieces he allegedly insinuated that participants of the manifestation were paid stooges.

Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry had suggested that FIA should investigate the murder. CM Sindh had said that the authorities would soon nab the culprits.

In order to probe the murder of journalist Aziz Memon Sindh government had announced constitution of a nine-member JIT to be headed by the additional IGP of Hyderabad Range. It was bound to submit findings within 15 days. The team included SSPs of districts Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad; a representative of the IB (not below the rank of deputy director) and a representative of the Special Branch.

Other members of the JIT were Dean of Basic Medical Sciences, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro, Dr Ikramuddin Ujjan, Chairman of Department of Forensic Sciences and Toxicology, LUMHS, Jamshoro Muhammad Akbar Qazi, Senior Research Officer of International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, Shakeel Ahmed and Police Surgeon in Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad, Dr Bansidhar. JIT, that attempted to find real motives and culprits involved They were authorized to  ask aid from any agency.
