PARIS: For quite some time, food allergies are getting widespread among infants. Parents go haywire wondering what causes the deadly allergies to diffuse extensively.
In such, a latest research has revealed that apart from milieu contaminants and some genetic factors, baby wipes are also to be blamed when it comes to spread such allergies.
As to prove this, study senior investigator Cook-Mills from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine conducted an experiment on mice model.
The mice have been through different stages and then exposed to baby wipes harboring sodium lauryl sulfate.
Their findings suggested that the skin layer harbors lipids (flab) that works as a barrier. Thus, the soap in the wipes affects that barrier. As a result, chemicals penetrate in the body, resulting into mounting food allergy.
Also, such chemicals could potentially trigger dry skin disorders such as eczema or atopic dermatitis.
It has further been learnt that we can control over it by adopting some hygienic practices. Parents could keep their kids off from having food allergies by washing hands before handling the babies.
Instead of using baby wipes, they should use pure cotton and water to clean the babies. Do not listen to the fake claims of big brands as such are loaded with harmful chemicals.
The findings have been published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
