QUETTA: Unidentified assailants opened fire at a police mobile here today killing one constable.  According to details the shooting took place when fruit sellers belonging to Hazara community were travelling from Hazar Ganji to Hazara Town escorted by police.

Police told that the attackers managed to bolt from the scene of crime after carrying out the targeted attack.  No individual or group has taken responsibility for the attack.

It is pertinent to mention here that Balochistan has faced a number of security challenges in recent months, with security personnel in the province often being targeted in roadside explosions and suicide attacks.

Members of law enforcing agencies have faced multiple attacks by miscreants in Quetta recently.

On 16th of January, 2018 a constable was killed on Raisani Road in yet another attack targeting law enforcers in the province. On 9th of January, a police bus was attacked by a suicide bomber in Quetta.

On 28th of February, four soldiers of the Frontier Corps (FC) and two policemen, including a DSP, were killed in two incidents of terrorism.

At least seven people were killed on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road when a suicide bomber rammed into a parked police truck injuring 16 people.

Five people were killed and 27 others had suffered injuries in a suicide attack on a convoy of a paramilitary force in the Sariab Road area of Quetta in November last year.

In October, seven policemen belonging to the Rapid Response Group (RRG) of Balochistan Police and a passer-by were killed in a suicide blast, also in Sariab area.

Fifteen people, including eight soldiers, lost lives when a suicide bomber targeted a military truck near the Pishin bus stop in Quetta in August.

Earlier in June, of 2017, 14 people – including seven policemen – lost their lives in a suicide blast that shook Shuhada Chowk in Quetta’s Gulistan Road area.

HAZARA COMMUNITY: Balochistan has been experiencing incidents of violence and targeted killings for over a decade. More than 1,400 incidents targeting the minority Shia/Hazara community have taken place in the province during the past 15 years.

A mere sectarian issue that has resulted in thousands of deaths present in the state of Pakistan, a state our forefathers and their forefathers gave their lives to form and this is the destruction of their legacy.

The killing of others due mostly, to different interpretations of the same religion that has continued to persist over thousands of years.

The disappointment that will be visible on our predecessors’ faces as we try in futility to justify senseless killing will be ironic in observing.
