NAUSHEHERO FEROZE: The Deputy Commissioner Capt retd Bilal Shahid Rao has said the Sindh Govt. had imposed a ban on rice cultivation in Sukkur Barrage and Rohri canal areas and the district administration would strictly implement on it in its jurisdiction.
He was presiding over a meeting on Monday to review implementation on the decision. The meeting was also attended among others by SSP Capt (retd) Tarique Willayat, all Assistant Commissioners, Mukhtiarkars and other officials of Revenue, Irrigation, and Agriculture departments. Deputy Commissioner said the ban on the cultivation of rice crop was imposed due to a shortage of irrigation water.
The DC directed the concerned Revenue officials to destroy any sort of rice cultivation without any delay and initiate action against violators. He also constituted Taluka level committees headed by the concerned Assistant Commissioners with representatives of Irrigation and Agriculture departments as its members to implement the decision. The Committees have been directed to submit a ‘No Cultivation of Rice Certificate’ in his office. They were authorized to take strict legal action including registration of FIRs against the violators.
