LONDON: Since dieting loses fat allowing pancreas work properly again, losing weight enormously helps contain diabetes.

The concentration of body fat around pancreas causes stress to beta cells (that controls blood sugar levels) in the organ.

When they stop producing enough of the hormone insulin, blood sugar levels augments out of control.

Glasgow University Professor Mike Lean speaking about a new study said: “We now have clear evidence that weight loss of 10-15kgs is enough to turn this disease around. One in 11 adults worldwide has diabetes, and most of them have type 2.

“Uncontrolled sugar levels cause damage throughout the body, leading to organ failure, blindness and limb amputations”.
