BEIJING: Due to pandemic Winter Games kicked-off here on Friday (4th of February, 2022) with almost no fans.
China waited seven years for this event and President Xi Jinping proclaimed that his country would put on one of the world’s largest and most global sporting spectacles.
Twenty head of states, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and PM Imran Khan witnessed the opening ceremony.
PM Imran Khan stated: “It is a pleasure to watch Winter Olympics in Beijing and I am really looking forward to that.
“I want to wish the people of China Happy Lunar Chinese New Year and of course it is the year of the tiger, which is my favorite animal.
“So I hope this coming year brings peace and prosperity to China and the rest of the world.”
Unfortunately, top diplomat of India did not attend the event in order to manifest the country’s displeasure on allowing a Chinese soldier (wounded in border clash a couple of years ago) bear the Olympic Torch.
