Blinken calls on Netanyahu in Jerusalem, yet again!

JERUSALEM: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on PM Benjamin Netanyahu yet again here on Tuesday (22nd Oct, 2024) for ceasefire push.

Meanwhile, taking to the X, Unrwa chief Philippe Lazzarini informed that Israel was continuing to prevent humanitarian missions from reaching Gaza: “Hospitals have been hit and are left without power while injured people are left without care”. According to Philippe Lazzarini, those trying to escape were being killed and the shelters are so full that internally displaced people are sleeping in the toilets too.

It may be recalled that Hamas attacked Israel on 7th Oct, 2023 sans sufficient preparation. They killed twelve hundred Israeli men, women and children, besides taking 251 hostage. In response (according to Hamas) Israel killed 42,000 Palestinian men, women and children in Gaza. One fails to figure out why the group, called Hamas, attacked without first making its own domicile hermetically safe?

Umpteenth time, the powerless UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres reiterated call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza. UN Relief Coordination Office, by means of X, too urged Israel to allow them immediate access to those trapped under rubble/

Talking to newsmen in New York, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said the UN chief was deeply alarmed by the rapidly deteriorating situation for civilians in northern Gaza.      He said civilians must be protected at all times and violations of international law were unacceptable.
