Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at FUUAST

KARACHI: Vice Chancellor Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziauddin on Thursday (3rd November, 2022) noted that the incidence of breast cancer was very high in Pakistan.

He was speaking on the occasion of a breast cancer awareness walk held by the faculty and students of FUUAST’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Campus Admin block.

The event was jointly organized by FUUAST, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Medical Microbiology Association of Pakistan.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziauddin said that every year around one million cases of breast cancer were reported and this disease was at the top in the whole of Asia including Pakistan.

Due to the lack of awareness of breast cancer women in Pakistan are at increased risk.

Dr. Muhammad Ziauddin noted that every year 40,000 women die in Pakistan due to late diagnosis of this disease.

Coordinator, Breast Cancer Awareness Program, Dr. Sikandar Sherwani informed the participants of the walk and said that of course the rate is very high among women but one percent rate is also found in men.

He added that women suffering from breast cancer should eat more fruits in their diet because antioxidants are present in fruits and research has shown that antioxidants are very useful in fighting breast cancer.

Focal person, Professor Lubna Anis of the Breast Cancer Awareness Program stressed on timely diagnosis and treatment. | YouTube Channel
