Call to stop the ongoing offensive in Rafah

Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Turkiye and Egypt have called on Israel to stop the ongoing offensive in Rafah and work for a ceasefire to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a telephone call the French President asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Gaza death toll is intolerable and operations there must cease.

Speaking at a news conference in Jerusalem, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said 1.3 million people do not really have anywhere else to go right now adding Israeli offensive on Rafah will be a humanitarian catastrophe.

In a joint statement prime ministers of Canada, Australia and New Zealand said a humanitarian ceasefire is urgently needed in Gaza and they are gravely concerned about looming military operations in Rafah.

In a joint news conference in Cairo, Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said the humanitarian tragedy and bloodshed in Gaza must be halted immediately.
