Captain Sarwar Sheheed (NH)

ISLAMABAD: Captain Sarwar Sheheed (NH) he was born on 10th of November, 1910 in a village called Singhori located in the district of Gujjar Khan.

Father of Raja Shaheed Sarwar Shaheed, who served as a constable for the British army during the WWI was awarded a property near Samundari for his services.

Young Raja Muhammad Sarwar, who had four siblings, acquired his early schooling from Faisalabad’s Islamia High School. He took active part in football and kabaddi matches.

In the month of April, 1929 he joined British Army as a constable and remained attached with the Baloch Regiment till 1941.

In 1944 he was commissioned in Punjab Regiment and elevated to the rank of IInd Lt. Few months before the  Partition he was elevated to the rank of Captain.

When Pakistan came into being Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed (NH) offered his services to Pakistan Army and volunteered to be part of the Battalion that was formed to regain Kashmir.

Under his able leadership as Company Commander of the IInd Battalion of Punjab Regiment he and his colleagues forced the occupied forces out of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Despite heavy firing and resistance from the enemy, Captain Sarwar’s battalion kept on moving forward at Uri Sector.

While Capt Sarwar was attempting to cut a barbed-wire barrier enemy shot him a number of times on the chest and he attained martyrdom on 27th day of July, 1948.

In recognition of his courage he was bestowed upon the highest medal of bravery Nishan-e-Haider . He was the first recipient of this award.

On the 74th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed  Wednesday (27th of July, 2022) President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi stated that the Nation would remain indebted to the martyrs.

Paying tributes to the Shaheed, President Alvi reminded that the brave son of the soil sacrificed his life while defending the motherland.
