Clinical Trials permitted for Covid-19 treatment

ISLAMABAD: Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has permitted clinical trials of plasma therapy for Coronavirus treatment here today. 

This was informed by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Dr. Zafar Mirza. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr. Tahir Shamsi has been advocating the method for quite sometime.

According to him  DRAP has also allowed the local production of raw material of cholorquine as part of efforts to cope with coronavirus challenge. Moreover, clinical trials of locally manufactured ventilators has also been given green light. Then over 50 manufacturers have been allowed to produce sanitizers as per the specifications   World Health Organization.

Recovered patient donates plasma for COVID-19 victims

KARACHI: The first patient (Yahya Jaffery)    who recovered from Coronavirus in Pakistan has donated plasma for the possible treatment of COVID-19 patients.

According to details Yahya Jaffery and his parents disclosed this at a Presser held here at Children’s Hospital on Thursday (2nd of March, 2020).

CEO and haematologist Dr Saqib Ansari speaking on the occasion requested the government to permit the use of plasma for coronavirus treatment: “We need no funds, new machinery or workforce as Children’s Hospital Karachi is ready to offer its services free of cost,” he said.

KARACHI: The Sindh government has today approved the technique, supervised by hematologist Dr. Tahir Shamsi, apropos use of passive immunization therapies to treat Coronavirus patients.

Dr. Shamsi explaining the modus operandi stated that blood plasma from a person, who had survived the Coronavirus, is extracted and injected into the blood of a patient suffering from the mysterious malady.

The technique, will also be presented to other provinces for approval before a detailed strategy regarding it can be implemented in hospitals all over Pakistan.
