ISLAMABAD: While the Federal Cabinet in a meeting held here on Sunday (20th October, 2024) under the chairmanship of the PM, approved the final draft of the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill, the National Assembly session will commence at 6PM the very day in order to table the same.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, while lauding the role played by JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman apropos 26th Constitutional Amendment, accused the Government of buying/abducting/threatening their seven MNAs. He said that PTI would not vote sans IK’s advice.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, claiming that he had taken the poison out of the earlier draft of the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill, warned that if any of his suggestions (including end of ribah in banking by 1st of January, 2028) found missing in the Bill they would not vote for it.
Earlier, BNP’s Akhtar Mengal, called on the JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur Rehman at his residence here on Saturday (19th Oct 2024).
Claiming that two of his party’s senators and their families were in the government’s custody, Akhtar Mengal reiterated that he would not support 26th Constitutional Amendment.
He asked why, steering clear through the public scrutiny, the Govt was in such a haste apropos the 26th Constitutional Amendments: “It is unacceptable for members of parliament and their families to be subjected to threats and intimidation”.
Akhtar Mengal made it clear that BNP would not participate in negotiations until the abducted senators and their families were released.
