Coronavirus: All 750 Shadi Halls of Karachi closed

KARACHI: The closure of all 750 marriage halls in order to contain the Pandemic in the Metropolis have left some 40,000 workers jobless.

According to sources not less than fifty people work for each hall directly or indirectly (waiters, manager, guards, sweepers and electricians, photographers, wedding video makers, decorators, rent a car people, caterers, meat/vegetable and oil sellers).

Most of the workers are daily wagers who feed their family by means of money they generate day to day. Often they get food to take home as well.

Despite the closure, one of the former staffers of NPTV went ahead and after nikkah performed at a mosque just took the bride home sans spending a million on halls and caterings. This money could be used for better purposes.
