Coronavirus claims 5,359 lives

KARACHI: Global death toll from the coronavirus pandemic is 5,359 till today (Saturday 14th of March, 2020), while total number of cases reported from all over the world is over 140,000. 

In Iran, where the death toll is 611, firefighters attempted to disinfect streets in Tehran expecting that would stop the spread of mysterious malady.

With 12,796 confirmed cases Iran is at the epicenter of the outbreak in ME. It is pertinent to mention here that so far seven senior Irani officials too lost their lives. To combat the coronavirus, Iran hs asked the IMF for $5 billion in emergency funding.

Saudi Arabia is all set to suspend international flights for a couple of weeks in response to the outbreak.

In USA, President Trump who had initially termed the issue of Coronavirus as a hoax, has declared a national emergency over the Pandemic. This will facilitate release of US $ 50 billion in federal aid for combating the Pandemic.

Meanwhile, WHO had pointed out that Europe, and not China, had now become the epicenter for Coronavirus.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Friday and Saturday (13th, 14th of March, 2020) several countries ( including Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Guinea, Mauritania and Eswatini) have confirmed their first cases.
