Coronavirus crisis: WWE releases Kurt Angle, 18 other superstars

STAMFORD: World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has announced that it has released 19 superstars including Kurt Angle and Rusev, giving no reasons on its website.

WWE has come to terms on the release of Kurt Angle, Rusev (Miroslav Barnyashev), Drake Maverick (James Curtin), Zack Ryder (Matthew Cardona), Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers), Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra), Luke Gallows (Drew Hankinson), Heath Slater (Heath Miller), Eric Young (Jeremy Fritz), Rowan (Joseph Ruud), Sarah Logan (Sarah Rowe), No Way Jose (Levis Valenzuela), Mike Chioda, Mike Kanellis (Mike Bennett), Maria Kanellis, EC3 (Michael Hutter), Aiden English (Matthew Rehwoldt), Lio Rush (Lionel Green), Primo (Edwin Colon) and Epico (Orlando Colon Nieves). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” the sports-entertainment company announced on the website.

Soon after the announcement, several veteran and newly arrived WWE stars took to their social media accounts to react to the move and expressed support for their colleagues.

Lexi Kaufman wrote on her Twitter handle: “Very hard day for the WWE family.” She also shared a broken heart emoticon.

Paige wrote: “My heart is breaking for my wrestling family..”

Becky Lynch, known as The Man in the WWE Universe, wrote: ” Today is a tough day for all of us in and who love this business. When this hardship is over, I hope we’re all reunited working together to make some magic in front of the fans who make it all worthwhile.”

Bella Twins, Nikki Bella and Brie Bella wrote: “Today has been a sad and tough day so far for the whole WWE family. Please send a lot of love and light our way. We all need it.”

Meanwhile, WWE superstar Kurt Angle thanked the wrestling organization for the great time.

“I wanted 2 say thank you to the WWE for the time I spent there. I made many new friends and had the opportunity to work with so many talented people. To the Superstars, continue to entertain the WWE Universe as well as you possibly can. They’re the best fans in the world. #itstrue,” he wrote.
