Coronavirus: No Juma (Friday) congregations in Tehran

TEHRAN: Since 26 people expired in Iran due to mysterious Coronavirus, authorities have called-off the Juma (Friday) congregations here and in several other cities.

According to details 245 people, including the vice president for women and family affairs, deputy health minister, another member of the Parliament and several senior officials, have tested positive for Coronavirus.

Iran, in its efforts to contain the menace had also banned entry of Chinese citizens in the country.

Coronavirus: PFUJ demands protective gear for those covering the epidemic

KARACHI: G. M. Jamali, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Rana Mohammad Azeem Secretary General have expressed profound concern for the journalists and Media workers covering the Coronavirus epidemic.

Noting that reporters and Media workers were being sent to cover coronavirus patients sans any protective masks and other gear, PFUJ, KUJ and all other affiliates have maintained that if Media houses wanted to cover the patients of Coronavirus, all teams should be given proper SOP and provided protective gear when they are covering stories on Coronavirus especially when they come into contact with patients.

G. M. Jamali, reacting to the complaints by several reporters and Media workers that they were being forced to do stories on Coronavirus without provision of proper protective gear, stated: “PFUJ demands that all media organizations provide reporters and media teams assigned to stories of Coronavirus with proper protective gear like masks, sanitizes and other necessary precautions.”

PFUJ have asked the media organizations to provide proper protective gear to all employees especially field teams covering the Coronavirus stories. No Media employee can be forced to cover a story and they have the full right to refuse.  Maintaining that it would support reporters and Media workers who dont want to do these stories, PFUJ asked Media House owners not to impose such assignments on unwilling workers.

PFUJ condemns murder of Ausaf bureau chief Javedullah Khan

SHAKARDARA: G. M. Jamali, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Secretary General Rana Mohammad Azeem have strongly condemned the murder of Javedullah Khan, bureau chief of Daily Ausaf in Swat.

According to details Javedullah Khan (who was also PML-N’s local leader and a member of the Peace Committee), was shot dead in the Shakardara area of tehsil Matta yesterday (Tuesday 25th of February, 2020).

Sources have informed that Javedullah Khan was going to his fields in his car when some unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle severely injuring him. He later expired during treatment at a medical facility nearby. However, it is interesting to know that his Police guard remained unhurt.

He was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment. A police guard of the journalist who was with him in the car remained unhurt.

Javedullah Khan was the younger brother of journalist Hameedullah Khan (Al-Jazeera correspondent who earlier represented Daily DAWN in Mingora, Swat).

PFUJ in its statement held: “It is sad news that another Pakistani journalist Javid Khan has been murdered in Swat by some unknown killer. He was not only the Al-Jazeera reporter’s brother but he was himself Bureau Chief of Ausaf News paper for Swat.
“Swat is a valley of remote northern areas of Pakistan so it is difficult to gather information from there. But as per the information received, Javid Khan was also member of the local peace committee. He had been receiving threat calls from terrorists. 
“The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President GM Jamali and Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem has condoled the family of the deceased journalist and demanded the government to provide justice to the family and put the culprits behind the bar. 
“The journalists working in far flung areas are facing problems to perform their duties in dangerous atmosphere and they have to sacrifice their lives in the line of duty. the Government should pay compensation to the family of Javid Khan.”
