Country’s wealth transferred abroad through money laundering: SAPM

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Media lftikhar Durrani has said during the tenure of previous governments of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) public money was looted ruthlessly and transferred abroad through their money laundering networks.

During an interview, he said recently, the joint investigation team’s (JIT) report revealed the alleged involvement of 172 persons in different fake bank accounts and money laundering cases.

The JIT was formed after the Supreme Court took a suo moto notice on the issue of fake bank accounts transactions in Karachi.

lftikhar Durrani said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was successfully running the country’s affairs, besides taking steps to uproot corruption from the national institutions.

He said people had given the mandate to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government for holding accountability across the board, besides bringing back the looted money of the nation.

He said the PTI government was fulfilling all its pledges made with the public during election campaign and providing basic facilities of life at their door steps through different welfare projects.

Replying to a question, he said the federal cabinet would reconsider its decision of placing names of 172 persons on the Exit Control List and decide as per law of the land.
