RAWALPINDI CRICKET STADIUM: On the second day of the second test match here Saturday (31st August, 2024) Bangladesh (that has beaten Pakistan in the first test by ten wickets to lead the series one-nil) opted to field after winning the toss.
Shocked by the first defeat ever by Bengal Tigers in 14 match history, Pakistan’s got a shock when Abdullah Shafique went back to pavilion without scoring at all. Nevertheless, captain Shan Masood’s 57 and Saim Ayub’s 43 injected some confidence back into the equipe. The Green shirts managed to muster 274 runs up in the first inning of the 2nd Test Match.
Bangladesh bowler Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 5 while pace bowler Taskin Ahmed took 3 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan and Nahid Rana hunted one scalp each. Earlier, due to heavy rain umpires had decided to abandon the first day of the second and final Test Match between Green Shirts and the Bengal Tigers here on Friday (30th August, 2024).
PCB proclaimed: “The first day’s play has been called off due to persistent rain and wet outfield.”
Aficionados as well as the pundits, who are still feeling the humiliation of defeat by US, got another shock on 24th August, 2024 when Bangladesh took a lead of 117 runs by amassing 565 runs in response to Green Shirts’ 448 for the loss of six wickets in reply to Pakistan’s 448/6 on day four of the first Test.
With Mushfiq-ur-Rahim’s 191 (runs off 341 balls) on the fourth day of the first Test played against the Green Shirts, Bengal Tigers are expecting to win the first ever test match against Pakistan. It is pertinent to mention here that the two teams have played thirteen matches so far. Pakistan won 12 and the 13th ended sans resultat.
