Cricket, 2nd Test, 4th Day: Pakistan beats England

MULTAN CRICKET STADIUM: England attempted to chase on Friday (18th October, 2024) the 297 target set by Pakistan, but its 8 batters were demolished by Green Shirt Noman Ali for 46 runs and the team went back to the pavilion scoring only 144 runs.

MULTAN CRICKET STADIUM: Sajid Khan was declared Player of the Match.

The three-match series was levelled 1-1 following Pakistan’s 152-run victory over England. It is pertinent to mention here that before Friday win, Pakistan had failed to win any test since 2021. Pakistani batter Kamran Ghulam also pitched-in a century in his very first test match.

MULTAN CRICKET STADIUM: Nouman Ali (11 wickets) and Sajid Khan (9 wickets) took all the 20 scalps in the 2nd Test Match to enter their names in the annals of cricket history.

English Cricket Team, on the 2nd day of the 2nd Test played on Wednesday (17th October, 2034) here, scored 239/6 at stumps against Pakistan’s 366.

It may be recalled that England had defeated Green Shirts by an inning and 47 runs in the first cricket test played on the Multan Cricket Stadium on 11th October, 2024.

The scores in brief: Pakistan 556 and 220, England 823 declared for 7. England is leading the three match test series by 1-0.

On the third day of the play the visiting England declared at 823 (for 7), Green Shirts scored 152 for the loss of 6 wickets still needing 115 runs to avoid innings defeat on the 4th day of the match here on Thursday (10th Oct, 2024).

While English bowlers destroyed the Green Shirt batters, Harry Brook’s bat yielded 317 runs, Joe Root added 262 to the score to get a 267-run lead. At the close of the fourth day, Agha Salman with 41 and Aamer Jamal with 27 were playing.

England commenced the 3rd day of the 1st Test on 96 runs (minus one wicket) against Green Shirts here on Wednesday (9th October, 2024).

Following opener Zak Crawley’s dismissal (for 78 runs), Joe Root and Ben Duckett’s 136 runs injected much needed adrenaline into the England cricket team) .

Duckett’s went back to pavilion after scoring 84 runs. At the draw of stumps Joe Root was at the crease with 176 runs along with Harry Brook who scored 141 runs.

 On the 2nd day of the 1st test of 3-Match series, England scored 96 runs for the loss of one wicket against Pakistan at stumps with Zak Crawley (64) and Joe Root (32) at the crease, here on Tuesday (8th October, 2024).

Green Shirts, earlier recommenced their first innings at the overnight score of 328 for four and were all out for 556 runs.

Main scorers were Skipper Shan Masood with 151 runs, Abdullah Shafiq 102 runs, Saud Shakeel 82 runs, while Salman Agha unbeaten with 104 runs.

For England, Jack Leach took three while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse hunted two scalps each.

Green Shirts after winning the toss opted to bat first against the England Team here on Monday (7th October, 2024) and scored 328/4 at the end of the day.

Following early departure of Saim Ayub, who scored only 4 runs, before he was sent back to the pavilion by Gus Atkinson, Shan Masood cracked seven boundaries, while the Skipper hit five fours and a six.

When the match ended Saud Shakeel whose bat yielded 35 and Naseem Shah were on the crease.

The match, first of the three-match series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
