Cricket (PSL 5th Edition): Karachi Kings wins the title

KARACHI: Karachi Kings has beaten Lahore Qalanders by five wickets in the final match of PSL 5th Edition to lift the trophy at National Stadium here today (17th of Nov., 2020).

According to details Karachi Kings managed to reach the 135-run target with eight balls to spare.

Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan commenced the innings by hitting a couple of fours each in the first two overs.

Babar Azam scored 63 off 49-balls to help the Karachi Kings win their first PSL title.

Captain Imad Wasim hit the winning four enabling Kings achieve the target in 18.4 overs.

Earlier the Qalandars won the toss and invited the Karachi Kings to bowl. Karachi pace trio Umaid Asif (2-18), Waqas Maqsood (2-18) and Arshad Iqbal (2-26) bowled nagging line and length to keep the flow of runs down as well as taking wickets.

Qalandars got off to a strong start, with Fakhar Zaman and Tamim Iqbal putting 30 runs on the scoreboard between them in five overs.

Lahore lost their way after a confident 68-run start in ten overs, provided by Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal (35) and Fakhar Zaman (27).

They lost both of them and Mohammad Hafeez in the space of seven deliveries with the addition of just two runs, spoiling a solid start.

Iqbal struck four boundaries and a six off 38 balls while Zaman had four boundaries in his 24-ball stay.

The Kings will take home $500,000 alongwith the trophy runner-ups  received $200,000.

It is pertinent to mention here that the final was played after a gap of nearly eight months as the matches were stopped due to the Pandemic.
