LANDI KOTAL: At least nine people were injured in an incessant exchange of fire between Pakistan and Afghan security forces near the porous Torkham border.
The injured include two FC personnel, two Khasadar officials as well as six locals. The injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital Landikotal.
According to media reports, the situation started to become intense on Sunday after two sides exchanged fire over the contentious border fencing issue.
Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that Pakistani forces responded with equal force.
“In order to check movement of terrorists through Torkham, Pakistan is constructing a gate on the own side of the border as a necessity to check unwanted and illegal movement,” Bajwa said in a Facebook post.
According to official sources, a curfew has been imposed in Torkham and Landikotal after the border firing incident.
Earlier, Pakistan informed Afghan authorities to provide the proper documents of the Afghan refugees entering Pakistan through Torkham crossing point. Pakistan also took strict measures and decided not to allow any Afghan national to enter in Pakistan without proper travel documents.
