KARACHI: CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, expressing grave concern over the augmenting positive cases of COVID-19 in the Province, urged the citoyens to observe the precautionary instructions.
Meanwhile, Sindh government has decided to carry out coronavirus infection tests of the customers visiting grocery and vegetable shops.
Earlier, by means of a video link PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had held a discussion with the Punjab-based health Workers.
The representatives of health organisations apprised Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of fast deteriorating situation due to Covid-19 in the province.
The representatives of health organisations appreciated Bilawal Bhutto’s gesture of directly taking the viewpoint of doctors. They said that the rate of spread of Covid-19 in Punjab was very high and where there was a lack of PPEs and doctors were being targeted.
They said that in Punjab advise was invited from bureaucrats instead of doctors and even the guidelines for doctors were prepared by the bureaucrats. They said every health worker got risk allowance in Sindh whereas only three percent health staff is given risk allowance.
The doctors from Punjab said that facilities were not being provided to doctors and they were hired on daily wages. They have no job security though they were risking their lives. Accusing the ministers of getting results changed from positive to negative they lamented that doctors were not being screened.
They told that large number of doctors who were tested positive were working at emergency, gynaecology and other wards. Doctors, they said, in emergency departments are not being provided with PPEs.
Chairman Bilawal addressing the doctors and other medical experts asked where did the money go which was given by IMF and other financial institutions and governments and other sources? Where did all the medical equipment go?
He said that the lesson from this pandemic was that Pakistan would have to establish health infrastructure. “The private health system and its hollowness has been exposed during this pandemic. Health system should not be run on the basis of profit but health facilities should be provided free of cost,” he held.
He accused federal government of sabotaging the lockdown by its narrative. He demanded federal government to announce package for the families of health workers including doctors: “Federal government should also help Punjab government and all other provincial governments in fighting with Covid-19,” Bilawal Bhutto demanded.
The meeting was attended by PMA President Ashraf Nizami, Dr. Azhar Ahmed Chaudhry, Dr. Shahid Malik, YDA President Dr. Salman Hasseb, Dr. Khizr, Dr. Maroof, Nurse Rubina Manzoor, and Arshad Butt of paramedical staff.
