KARACHI: Tropical cyclone Asna, that is 170 km away from the Port City, is moving towards Oman, heavy rain expected in the Metropolis by 11PM, Friday (30th August, 2024).
By the afternoon of Friday at least two people including a (50-year-old) woman died when a tree crashed on her due to winds reaching speed of fifty km/h.
DG Meteo Dept stated at a Presser on Friday: “This is the first time in 60 years, since 1964, that such a cyclone has formed. Currently, it is located 200 kilometres south of Karachi and may intensify into a tropical storm within the next six hours.”
PMD has stated on 29th August that a tropical Cyclone Asna might emerge along the Sindh Coast Thursday night or Friday.
Heavy rains with thunderstorms could hit Karachi, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro and Dadu till Saturday (31st August, 2024).
Fisherfolks have been asked not to enter the deeps till the end of this week to avoid rough sea. If cyclone hits Sindh the citoyens will face danger of uprooting trees, caving of dilapidated batiments and falling signboards.
