Cypher Audios: Legal action against IK approved

ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet, while approving the recommendations of a Cabinet Committee, gave green light to launch an investigation and take legal action apropos ‘Diplomatic Cypher Audio Leaks’ involving former PM and Chairman PTI Imran Khan.

Federal Cabinet maintained since the issue was of National Security legal action should be initiated.

According to Federal Cabinet’s recommendations a committee of senior FIA officers should conduct the probe and if needed services of intelligence agencies’ personnel may be acquired.

It may be recalled that a magistrate had issued Imran Khan’s arrest warrants here on Saturday (1st of October, 2022) for threatening Add. District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.

The relevant FIR, that was registered against Imran Khan on 20th day of August, 2022 , harbors four sections of PPC (506: punishment for criminal intimidation; 504: intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace; 189: threat of injury to public servant and 188: disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

Reacting to the Cabinet Move PTI’s Ch. Fawad Hussain Tweeted: “The date of Cypher said it all:) let’s investigate hope Maryam Nawaz Sharif will not change her position on Cypher investigation by independent commission in coming days.”

He also attached a copy of the Summary for the Cabinet bearing a Subject: Recommendation of the Sub-Committee of the Cabinet.

The Summary reads: “The cabinet in its meeting held on 30th September, 2022, constituted a Sub-Committee to deliberate and recommend actions regarding the conversation of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his political associates and the then secretary to the Prime Minister, available on the internet regarding the Cypher Message received from Washington (Cypher No. I-10678 7th March, 2022 …it is a matter of national security, which is/was prejudicial to national interest and needs legal action. Therefore, the apex investigation agency

FIAmay be directed to inquire the matter by constituting a team of senior officers, which may co-opt (intelligence) officers from other intelligence agencies for the purpose, and to proceed further against the perpetrators in accordance with the law”.
