Days before Eid, NBP online system suffers country-wide slowdown




KARACHI: People face difficulties to get cash from the banks and ATM’s as different branches of the banks across the country witnessed issues related to link down.

According to details, people who reached at banks to get cash in order to shop for Eid-ul-Fitr, faced difficulties to get cash from banks as most of the banks remained ‘out of cash’ in the metropolis.

Pensioners also failed to get cash from the banks and started to protest against the bank staff for delaying issuance of pensions and failing to support finance-related needs of the locals few days before Eid-ul-Fitr.

They accused that the bank officials are demanding the bribe from them in order to withdraw their pensions ahead of Eid.

The situation started to turn worse after online banking system of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) went down, leaving the pensioners and government employees across the country to suffer in the intense heat.

The bank administration called out the police to control the situation.

Meanwhile, an NBP spokesman offered the apology to the pensioners and said that all branches across the country are burdened owing to the upcoming Eid.

“There’s no negligence by bank officials and staff. The banks are burdened across the country as everybody is trying to get cash,” said the spokesperson adding that all pensioners would get their pensions no matter we have to keep our banks opened till midnight.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar telephoned Governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and advised him to take necessary measures for facilitation of general public, in order to ensure uninterrupted availability of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) services on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
