Death toll rises in Tharparkar: Four more malnourished children die in Mithi

MITHI: Four more children on Monday died due to malnutrition in the district capital of Tharparkar taking the death toll to 54 during last 18 days.

A newborn and a five-month-old baby girl Hasto Bhel were among the four, who breathed their last at Civil Hospital Mithi.

More than 95 children are under treatment in different hospitals of Tharparkar. Many children have been shifted to Hyderabad owing to critical condition.

On Sunday, one-month-old Zeenat died of malnutrition in Civil hospital Mithi and four-month-old in Talqa Hospital in Chachro.

Meanwhile, the provincial health department has claimed that four teams have been sent to far flung areas to treat the malnourished children.

A 15-month-old child Bheem Ram died before reaching Islam Kot Hospital on Jan 8. Some 17 children had died of malnutrition by the first week of the month and other causes.
