Denial of women inheritance right

ISLAMABAD: Denial of women inheritance right should be declared as a crime and religious scholars and society should play their proactive role to educate the people about granting inheritance right to women.
A prominent religious scholar and General Secretary of Wafaq-ul-Madaris, Qari Hanif Jalandhri said this while talking to the Media on Monday on `Women Rights and Islam’ in connection with 12th Rabi-ul- Awwal celebrations.
“Islam has given inheritance right to women which the most civilized societies have not granted to their women even today”, he said.
Council of Islamic Ideology, as well as religious scholars, have urged the government and law enforcement departments to ensure the implementation of laws which prevent the illegal and non-religious practice of marrying women with Quran in few parts of the country, he said.
Hanif Jalandhri said there is no legal or religious value of such kind of marriages and the government should ensure its writ against these practices.
Islam is the only religion in the world which ensures maximum rights and protection to women. There is no ambiguity in accepting this fact that Islam and women rights are compulsory to each other, he observed.
First of all, Islam is the religion which has given the most important right to live as girls were used to burying alive in the pre-Islamic era.
It was a woman (Hazrat Khadija RA) through whom the first and the biggest testimony of Islam and revelation of Holy Quran were given as when Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) received the first revelation of Holy Quran, he shared with Hazrat Khadija (RA).
He said Islam has given freedom of expression to women as well as important to their own will in every matter of life. Islam has given right to woman to choose her life partner and religious practice of `Nikah’ cannot be performed without her free consent.
Islam has given the women right to education without putting any earning responsibility on her. It is the responsibility of men, either father, brother, son or husband to provide her all necessities of life.
Referring to the status Islam gives to the mothers, he said the Holy Quran says `Heaven lies under the feet of your mother’.
Renowned religious scholar and Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said Islam has granted rights to women in all sectors of life either it is education, business, family, inheritance.
He said Our Prophet (PBUH) has said that the one who will raise his two daughters, educate and marry them in a dignified way will be close to Him in the heaven just like two fingers.
Saving women from humiliation they were facing in a pre-Islamic era and elevating their status to a dignified one was among one of the blessings of Islam.
Islam has said that the best among you is the one who respects his woman; he referred and said this message has changed the status of women in society.
He also called for strict implementation of laws related to women inheritance right to strengthen the status of women in society.
