TORONTO: According to the latest study, depressed people with metabolic menace factors such as obesity, high blood pressure and harmful cholesterol levels are more than six times prone to develop type 2 diabetes.
“Emerging evidence suggests that depression in combination with behavioral and metabolic risk factors increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular conditions,” said the leader of the study, Norbert Schmitz.
The researchers have reported the results in the journal Molecular Psychiatry after analyzing 2,525 participants, aged between 40 and 69.
