Device that can help nearly-blind live independently

MEHWISH

CALIFORNIA:  A recent study suggests that OrCam, an artificial vision device that bears a camera, can be fastened to any pair of glasses. This can help people with very poor eyesight recognize faces, money and text.

Senior researcher Dr. Mark Mannis stated: “If the eye disease is beyond any surgical or medical therapy. If they are not able to read, then this instrument is best for them for being independent”.

Further terming OrCam as a remarkable innovation, Dr. Mannis told the device attached to the glasses can communicate with the bearer through earpiece: “It provides a patient (suffering from severe visual disability) with an incredible amount of independence”.

Low vision may be caused by injuries, birth defects, eye diseases, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
