KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that the Mayor Karachi wanted more powers for China cutting and other favorite activities.
“Don’t demand more powers. Please stop asking for powers for China cutting and terrorist activities in Karachi,” CM said during his post-budget session in the Sindh Assembly.
His remarks came in response to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPAs who were demanding more powers for the mayor during assembly session on Thursday.
“The local government law was passed by the assembly and powers have been given to mayor and other LG representative as per the law. The Supreme Court in its verdict has accepted this law and ordered us to hold the local government elections under this act,” Shah said.
Shah was of the view that the MQM had been threatening the provincial government for the last four years to approach the courts seeking powers for the mayor.
The CM also denied that the provincial government was unfair in funds allocation to Karachi saying that they have allocated more than Rs70 billion for the metropolis.
“No division of Sindh has received such a large amount of funds like those earmarked for Karachi,” he concluded.
