Dr. Asim undergoes medical tests at JPMC

KARACHI: Former petroleum minister Dr. Asim Hussain was taken to a hospital on Tuesday for a medical check-up.

Dr. Asim, a senior PPP leader and close aide of Asif Ali Zardari, was brought to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre under Rangers and police security. He underwent several medical tests prescribed by the doctors.

A five-member doctors’ panel conducted tests of Dr. Asim.

After the check-up, the medical board said Dr. Asim was suffering psychological problems and required urgent treatment.

A pyshcologist in its recent report had stated that the PPP leader was suffering from mental stress. On the basis of that report, Dr. Asim’s counsel had urged the court to let his client undergo medical tests.

Prior to it, another report by doctors was facing psychological trauma and could commit suicide.

Dr. Asim Hussain is facing charges of corruption and terror financing. He is currently under custody of National Accountability Bureau. Investigators say they have got concrete proofs against the PPP leader for his involvement in causing huge loss to the national exchequer and aiding terrorists of different political parties.
