ISLAMABAD: Dr. Faisal Sultan has been appointed here today by Prime Minister as SAPM on National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination with immediate effect, following the resignation of Dr Zafar Mirza from the post on 29th of July. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Sultan who will be holding the status of a federal minister, is the CEO of SKMCH and also has been serving as the premier’s focal person on Covid-19.
Earlier, the premier had accepted the resignation of Dr. Zafar Mirza, SAPM on Health, from his post. Dr. Zafar Mirza quit his job as WHO’s director of Health System Development at its Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean. In the month of April, 2019 he was assigned the portfolio of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination. And when COVID-19 emerged he oversaw the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Taking to the Twitter Dr. Zafar Mirza stated: “Due to ongoing negative discussion about the role of SAPMs & criticism on the government, I choose to resign. Pakistani people deserve a better health care. I have worked sincerely to contribute to this cause. Flag of Pakistan will InshaAllah emerge out of COVID-19 with a stronger healthcare system.”
