UMERKOT: Interior Minister of Sindh, Zia-ul-Hasan Linjar, sharing the findings of the enquiry report told the Media here on Thursday (26th Sept, 2024) that blasphemy suspect Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar was killed in a fake encounter by Police on (19th Sept).

Zia-ul-Hasan Linjar said if relatives of the killed blasphemy accused do not lodge FIR against the Umerkot and Mirpurkhas Policemen responsible for the murder, a FIR would be filed on behalf of the state: “We are ordering an FIR against the officers involved.

“The democratic government of the PPP stands by the findings of the inquiry committee, which has recommended that the victim’s family file a case. If they fail to do so, the Sindh government will step in as a party and file the case...

“We believe the DIG is involved in the incident. It’s my responsibility to restore public confidence in the police. The report makes it clear that this was a staged encounter. The police are meant to protect society, not conduct fake encounters.”

It may be noted that an investigation was lodged on the orders of the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah: “The report is 31 pages long, using CCTV footage and vehicle trackers to conclude that the encounter was fake. It also establishes the involvement of the DIG and other subordinate officers.”
