KARACHI: For past five years or so, Pakistani drama serials demonstrate much about women empowerment. Serials such as Yaqeen Ka Safar, Digest Writer, and Zindagi Gulzar Hai to name the few reiterated on the portrayal of strong women characters.

However, the reality is just the opposite as innumerable women still go through tough time here in this patriarchal and double standard society.

Considering this phenomenon, model-cum-actress Saheefa Jabbar Khattak’s next TV drama also manifests apropos women empowerment.

The serial entitled Beti also features actor Fahad Mirza, Javed Sheikh and Asma Abbas in a significant role.

Claiming that the upcoming story really touches her deepest emotions Khattak beams, “The drama talks about the type of families who think of daughters as a burden rather than a blessing.”

Helmed by Mohsin Mirza, Beti is penned by Sophia Khurram, which would be the production of iDreams.

Deliberating about her character, Saheefa unveiled, “I’m playing a young woman from a well-educated family. Her father passed away when she was quite young so she’s been raised by her mother who is also a very strong woman.”

“She falls in love with a guy whom she marries as well but his family is very different from hers. So the story is about her adjusting to very different norms than the ones she was raised in.”

Talking about the so-called mindset of people wanting baby boys here, she further added, “The guy’s family is the type that doesn’t want daughters. So it shows a process on how to handle such mindsets.”

At the moment, Beti is at the shooting stage, however, its launching date is yet to be revealed. “We’ve just started shooting soon and it’s going be a good month or so before we’re done. But I’m really hoping it goes well. I was enjoying working on the project since the moment I stepped on the set.”

This is not it as the actress has two more ventures in her kitty; “I have two other projects in the loop, ” said she.

It is pertinent to mention here that people here claim to be educated but as a matter of fact, still, parents discriminate among their daughters and sons when it comes to providing them with pocket money or other stuff including food.
