WALES: English cricketers have been barred by the cricket board from wearing smartwatches during upcoming matches, a step towards stopping corruption in the team and the administration.
The cricketers were previously allowed by the administration to wear the watches provided that players were not communicating through it.
England Cricket Board (ECB) announced that it was reviving the rules before the live streaming of country fixtures taking place this year.
“We review the anti-corruption codes and PMOA minimum standards on a yearly basis so that they remain relevant to the current threats and risks to cricket,” an ECB official said.
The decision to review and change the rules was taken after it was revealed that Steven Croft, one of the players in the team, informed Lancashire player Matt Parkinson about his selection using his watch.
