ISLAMABAD: PTI’s Faisal Vawda has been declared ineligible for holding Senator’s seat by the ECP for holding dual nationality.
It may be recalled that on 23rd of December, 2021, ECP had reserved its verdict on PPP-P lawmaker Qadir Khan Mandokhail’s plea seeking his disqualification.
Announcing the decision the a three-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja took the notification for election as a Senator back.
According to details he has been disqualified by the ECP over concealing his dual nationality at the time of participating in the National Assembly General Election (held in 2018) on a Karachi seat.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikardar Sultan Raja, who headed the three-member ECP bench, directed Faisal Vawda to return the salary and other benefits he had received as a member of the National Assembly.
ECP maintained in its written order that anybody holding dual nationality, who wanted to contest in an election, needed to obtain a declaration from the country in question apropos renunciation of his nationality to qualify as a citizen of Pakistan.
